Corn Exchange

Before the correct coating system could be specified, Tor Coatings carried out a comprehensive free survey of the site to ensure every aspect of the project was clearly understood and all defects were documented thoroughly.

During the survey, we assessed that the main objective of the project was to clean, prepare and repair the steel glazing bars and glass panels of the roof structure, which acts as a top-light roof light. In addition to this, there were also several leaks causing problems to the day-to-day operations within the Corn Exchange that needed remedying. Retaining the dome’s aesthetics was also essential.

The Elastaseal system from Tor Coatings was specified for the Corn Exchange. As a seamless, cold liquid applied protective coating, the system could be applied to the glazing bars in a colour to match the previous frame. To ensure the dome was completely watertight, Tor’s clear Transglaze waterproofing system was also specified for the glazing.

The project was carried out by Roofing Consultants Ltd with site support from the Tor sales and technical service team.

In addition to the comfort of having a 25 year BBA accreditation, the project is covered by Tor’s comprehensive 25-year single point warranty. During this period, we will carry out regular scheduled inspections to ensure that the performance is delivered for the client. Tor Coatings – in conjunction with specialist roofing contractor Roofing Consultants Ltd – won the Liquid Applied Waterproofing category at the 2014 National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) Roofing Awards in recognition of the Corn Exchange roof refurbishment project.
