Before the correct coating system could be specified, Tor Coatings carried out a comprehensive free survey of the site to ensure every aspect of the project was clearly understood and all defects were documented thoroughly.

Though old, the existing zinc roof sheets were found to be in a reasonable condition. However, over the years various repairs had been made to the sheet edges and fixing and these repairs were now failing. There was also some evidence of corrosion to sheets located closed to the extraction vents.

To repair and seal existing cut edge corrosion whilst safeguarding against future issues with a durable, protective surface, the Unicover EdgeProtect and Unicover S 10 Year systems were specified.

Before works began, contractor G.I Sykes thoroughly pressure-washed the roof, ensuring all debris was removed.

Using the Uncover Edgeprotect System, all corrosion was removed from the exposed metal and the edges were cleaned with QD thinners. The area was then primed with Elastaseal Z before Elastascrim BT tape was applied to strengthen the joints. Elastaseasl Fibretex was then coated over the tape to reinforce the lap joint.

The gutter was also included in the scope of works, Elastaseal Z Embedment Coat was applied and reinforced with GRP Elastamat, followed by Elastaseal Fibretex.

All zinc roof sheets were then primed with Raincoat APA, an anti-corrosive designed to promote adhesion. Unicover S Top Coat was then applied over the full roof surface to complete the system.

A Wet Film Thickness gauge was used to check the coating following application to measure the depth of the coating and ensure it met quality standards. The Unicover S system provides up to 10 years of protection, ensuring the Fibercill facility roof performs well for years to come.
