When Unipres UK Ltd decided to renovate the exterior of their manufacturing plant in Sunderland, Tor Coatings was approached to provide a solution. All elevations to the building envelope are vertically clad in profiled metal panels and the client required a system that would not only offer protection to the metal but would also look presentable.

Torclad™ was specified in a semi gloss finish to fulfil the decorative requirements of the project.

Unipres was in the process of unifying its operations throughout the world under the same brand design and required the Sunderland building to be coated in the corporate colour scheme, with off white for the main elevations finished in a cornflower blue for the top and bottom trims. In the years since the building was constructed, it had suffered from rusting, a high amount of chalking on the surface and general deterioration which had to be removed prior to any recoating.

Torclad™ is a high performance coating that provides a colour fast, extremely durable and easily maintainable, permanent system for external surfaces. Aside from its performance qualities, however another factor strongly influenced the products specification.

“One of the critical benefits of Torclad™ is the length of guarantee,” says Chris Little, Area Business Manager of Tor Coatings. “We are able to offer a 15 year guarantee on the system to meet the client’s requirements, which is five years longer than typical comparable material guarantees. This is possible due to the formulation of the product and its application by approved contractors.”

With in excess of 12,000m2 of cladding to coat, contractors FWR used spray application for speed and accuracy. “The finished result is excellent” comments Eric Cartmell, Maintenance Controller at Unipres. “The colour scheme is as we specified and the building has been totally rejuvenated with the help of the Tor Coatings product range.”
